Michelle R. King, Esq.

Michelle’s focus is on criminal and civil appellate advocacy, Post-Conviction Review, Title IX proceedings, and Protection from Abuse cases. Michelle King, a Maine native, returned to her home state in 2021 after a highly successful twenty-year appellate career as a prosecutor in the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Michelle King, a Maine native, returned to her home state in 2021 after a highly successful twenty-year appellate career as a prosecutor in the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Michelle’s focus is on criminal and civil appellate advocacy, Post-Conviction Review, Title IX proceedings, and Protection from Abuse cases.

In her work with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Michelle handled hundreds of appeals involving issues of murder, sexual assault, drugs, animal abuse, assault, and operating under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. She also represented the Commonwealth’s interests at state parole hearings, served as the office liaison on the Massachusetts Human Trafficking Task Force, and trained assistant district attorneys and state and local law enforcement. In 2009, Michelle won the prestigious Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, MADD Hero Award, for her work on two operating under the influence of alcohol cases. In addition, from 2015 to 2017, Michelle worked on a case of first impression before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, where she successfully argued that roadside assessments performed to detect marijuana impairment were admissible in operating under the influence prosecutions. As a result of this case, Michelle became a statewide expert on the issue of driving while impaired by marijuana.

Since returning to Maine, Michelle has won numerous criminal and civil appeals before the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine.

Previous & Personal

While in law school at Widener University School of Law, Michelle was the Bluebook Editor for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law. She has authored three published law review articles. Prior to attending law school, Michelle was a co-founder of the Mentors in Violence Prevention program at Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society, an internationally renowned Gender Violence Prevention program, and currently lectures at Northeastern University in the College of Professional Studies on the issue of gender-based violence. She also taught legal research and writing at New England Law-Boston for over 20 years.

Michelle also volunteers for the Maine State High School Mock Trial Competition. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, golf, photography, and watching the Red Sox.
